What does Tribe teach about being filled?

Drawn from the message where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At Tribe, the teaching on being filled is rooted in the biblical feast of Shavuot and the events of Acts 2. Brian walked the congregation through what happened on Pentecost Sunday as the direct fulfillment of that ancient feast, showing how the seven feasts God gave in Leviticus were never simply Jewish customs but were designed by God himself to help his people remember, recalibrate, and rehearse. Being filled with the Holy Spirit, in that framework, is not a surprise or an accident. It is what God was pointing toward all along through the sacrifices, the calendar, and the gatherings he commanded.

The two loaves from the Leviticus 23 feast ordinance carried particular weight in this teaching. Fine flour, Brian explained, does not come easily. The grain goes through the tribulum before it becomes what it needs to be. That image sat alongside the Pentecost account in Acts 2, where the disciples were gathered and the Spirit fell. The feast was not just a memory of that moment but, Brian taught, a rehearsal that puts believers in a position to recognize what God is doing when it happens again.

Brian also pressed on why a person might not experience the filling they are praying for. He says, "God is not a foolish investor. If your heart is full, he will withhold answering that prayer." The invitation at Tribe is to let the feasts do what God designed them to do: clear out what is worthless, get calibrated to God's faithfulness, and stay ready for what he has not yet fulfilled.

Taught from Acts 2:1-4 · Leviticus 23:15-21 · Acts 2:37 · Psalm 77:4-12 · Psalm 119:37-40

“The law reveals sin that condemns us, but the spirit reveals the Messiah who saves us.”

From Seven Lambs and Two Loaves

The passage taught · Acts 2:1-4

1 Now when the day of Pentecost had come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 Suddenly there came from the sky a sound like the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 Tongues like fire appeared and were distributed to them, and one sat on each of them.

4 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.
