What does Tribe teach about communion?

At Tribe, communion is never treated as a ritual standing on its own. It is consistently presented as a direct encounter with the living Jesus, rooted in the original Passover God established in Exodus 12 and fulfilled in the shed blood of Christ. Brian has walked the congregation through that ancient story in detail, pausing on things like the lamb brought into the home and loved before it was sacrificed, the hyssop branch used to apply blood to the doorframe, and the Hebrew word for basin that also means threshold. All of those details point in the same direction: that entering into right relationship with God has always required crossing through a portal of blood, and that communion is the ongoing way Christians step across that same threshold.
The search for yeast that God commanded Israel before Passover became one of the more searching moments in these teachings. Brian used 1 Corinthians 5:6-8, where Paul writes that a little yeast spreads through the whole batch of dough and then calls Christ our Passover lamb, to show that the command was never only about bread. Small compromise works the same way yeast does, spreading quietly until it has touched everything. That is why coming to the table honestly matters. The same impulse that sent Israel searching every corner of the house for yeast is the impulse behind Psalm 139, inviting the Holy Spirit to search the heart before the congregation shares the cup and the bread together.
In the series on hearing God's voice, communion closed the final gathering as a natural landing point, an act of drawing near to the one whose voice the congregation had been learning to recognize. The same pattern held in the New Wine series, where communion ended the service as a direct encounter with what Jesus meant when he described the new covenant. Brian has been clear that no religious effort or tradition gets a person into right relationship with God. As he has put it, 'Only through the shed blood of Jesus are people allowed to have right relationship with God.' The table, in this church's life, is where that truth stops being abstract.
