What does Tribe teach about fear of failure?

At Tribe, the teaching on fear of failure starts with an honest look at what happens the moment a big dream surfaces: the instinct kicks in to count the obstacles, run the logistics, and quietly talk yourself out of it before anyone else gets the chance. The Dreaming Again message traced that instinct all the way back to Nehemiah, an ordinary cupbearer whose job was essentially to taste the king's wine and die first if it was poisoned. Nehemiah heard that Jerusalem's walls were rubble, let his heart break over it, and eventually asked the most powerful man in the known world to send him there and fund the trip. That was not a man who had conquered fear of failure. That was a man who prayed before he spoke, gave God credit when the answer came back yes, and moved anyway.

What the teaching pressed on was the relationship between faithfulness in small, unglamorous work and the capacity to attempt something that genuinely requires God. Nehemiah had spent years doing his job well enough that the king noticed when something was wrong. That ordinary faithfulness was not a detour from the big dream. It was the runway that made the dream possible at all. The sermon's point was that the dreams most worth chasing are the ones that feel impossible by design, because those are the ones where God's involvement is not optional.

The teaching also offered four marks of a God-given dream as a way to test whether the fear holding someone back is fear of genuine calling or just anxiety about a self-generated idea: it requires faith, it impacts others, it glorifies God, and it costs something. The goal was not a checklist but a way of discerning whether what feels scary is actually worth being scared about, and whether the One who made the dream possible in Nehemiah's day is still in the business of showing up.
