What does Tribe teach about holy spirit relationship?

At Tribe, the teaching on a relationship with the Holy Spirit starts with the conviction that it is personal, cultivated, and cannot be outsourced. Brian has framed this around the image of oil for a lamp, drawn from the parable of the ten virgins. The oil represents the intimacy with God that only a person can build for themselves. As Brian says, "You cannot burn your lamp off of somebody else's oil." No pastor, no worship service, and no church format can supply what only comes through your own surrender and closeness with God.
Brian has taught that this relationship is built through ordinary, daily practice: continual conversation with the Holy Spirit, inviting Him in, listening for small nudges, obeying them, and praying in your prayer language. The crushing and pressing that produce olive oil in the natural are the same process that purchases oil in the spiritual, meaning that small acts of surrender and obedience are the currency. The conversational meeting format Tribe gathers in is itself a reflection of this value, designed to make space for that kind of real engagement rather than a passive, spectator experience.
Brian has also been direct that this is not something that can be put off indefinitely. Working through the ten virgins parable, he noted that the store does not stay open forever. As he put it, "There will come a day where it will be too late to buy oil, and you must burn your lamp with whatever supply you have." The call at Tribe is to treat the Holy Spirit relationship as the steady, ongoing work of a lifetime, not something to catch up on later.
