What does Tribe teach about obeying god?

At Tribe, the teaching on obeying God starts with a simple but demanding three-part movement drawn from Luke chapter six: come to Jesus, listen to his teaching, and follow it. Brian Walker laid out these three pieces and pressed the room to see that none of them stands alone. Coming means appearing before Jesus personally and publicly, which means you cannot hide behind a performance or run games. Listening is not passive. It carries the weight of someone who tests and wrestles, the way Jacob wrestled with God, bringing doubts and hard questions straight to the Lord rather than walking away from them.
Obeying, Pastor Brian said, is where the whole thing becomes real. The Greek word carries a picture of new roots shooting forth from a plant, and the verb is in the present progressive tense. This is not a single decision made once. It is a continual coming, a continual listening, a continual obeying. A member of the room noted that new roots have to push through hard ground, and Brian affirmed that obeying is not always easy. He also warned plainly that when a person stops short of actually doing what they hear, they are not just missing a step. As Brian put it, "It's one thing to be deceived by the devil when he's running his game on you. It's a whole another thing when you are doing the devil's job for him."
The "Following the Holy Spirit" message carried this theme further, framing obedience as following, the same word that runs through the book of Ruth. Ruth follows Naomi, Boaz instructs Ruth to follow his workers, Ruth pledges to do everything Naomi says. Brian drew a straight line from those moments to the invitation to follow the Holy Spirit the same way. He also noted that circumstances can mislead us along the way, quoting directly: "Circumstances can be a very poor indicator of walking in the spirit." Obeying God, the teaching at Tribe holds, is less about a single dramatic choice and more about staying synced up, step by step, with where the Holy Spirit is actually leading.
