What does Tribe teach about trusting god?

At Tribe, the teaching on trusting God keeps returning to a gap that most people recognize in themselves: the difference between believing that God is good and actually trusting him with the specific thing that is hardest to hand over. Brian Hunter has pressed on this from several directions, but the through-line is consistent. Trusting God is not a feeling you arrive at by reasoning your way there. It is a practice, shaped by memory, obedience, and the willingness to receive from someone else's faith when your own runs thin. In the Psalm 78 conversation, Brian pointed out that the warriors of Ephraim had their bows in hand and turned back anyway, because they had forgotten what God had already done. Remembering is itself a weapon. When you cannot recall what God has already come through for you, you retreat even when you are equipped.
The tithing series pushed the same idea into a more concrete register. Brian was direct that there is a difference between belief and trust, and that many people trust Jesus in theory while keeping their finances at arm's length from him. The feeding of the five thousand became the picture: Jesus does not need much to work with, but he does need something. Lissa Hunter described a moment in Tulsa when she and Brian were under real financial pressure. They carried their checkbooks and financial documents out to the driveway, held them up, and told God that the accounts had their names on them but belonged to him. That was the moment, she said, the mental shift happened from feeling responsible for provision to understanding they were stewards of what was already his.
The endurance series brought in the hardest edge of the teaching. Trusting God does not mean the road stays comfortable. Brian walked through Jesus refusing the pain-dulling drink at the cross and argued that the cup of escape, however appealing it looks, is not what it appears to be. The cup of trusting God through difficulty, by contrast, produces what nothing else can. That same thread runs through the David and Goliath conversation, where the point was that fighting on God's terms requires knowing whose hand your life is in before the battle starts. As Brian put it, "The day of battle is not the time to train for battle."
