What does Tribe teach about biological sex?

Drawn from the message where it was actually addressed: the words said from the front, the passages taught, and where to hear the whole thing.

At Tribe, the teaching on biological sex starts with creation. In a Mother's Day message preached at the Virginian Hotel, Pastor Brian went to Genesis 1:27-31 to establish that God made human beings male and female, and that those two biological sexes are not a cultural arrangement but God's own design. Before honoring mothers that morning, he said he felt he had to slow down and define terms, not according to popular opinion but according to the God who created what we are defining.

Brian drew on the Old Testament image of boundary stones, markers that in ancient Israel defined each family's land, to name what he sees happening in the culture. Those boundary stones, he said, were set by God, not by any county survey or shifting social consensus, and moving them is not a neutral act. He read Romans 1:18-32 and said Paul described the same dynamic two thousand years ago: when a society suppresses the truth about God and turns to worship what is created rather than the creator, God gives that society over to increasingly dark, confused, and foolish thinking. Brian connected that directly to the current cultural moment, saying we have reached a place where, as he put it, "we dare not even speculate at the common sense definition of what a woman is."

He was careful to say he was not making a political statement or targeting any person or group. His concern was an ideology he believes Scripture addresses directly. As a husband and father, he said something rises up in him when he sees those boundary stones moved, and that the proper response is to protect and celebrate the women God has designed, which is what he went on to do for the rest of that Mother's Day gathering.

“Falling in love with creation here in this valley is like reading an amazing book and then asking where you can get a bottle of the ink that book was written with.”

16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your heart to the Lord.
