What does Tribe teach about buying oil?

At Tribe, the teaching on buying oil starts with the parable of the ten virgins in Matthew 25. Brian has been direct that oil for your lamp cannot be borrowed, transferred, or handed down from someone else. As he put it, "You cannot burn your lamp off of somebody else's oil." No pastor, no worship service, and no church format can supply what only comes through personal intimacy with God.
Brian teaches that oil is purchased through surrender and obedience, through what he describes as the same crushing and pressing process that produces olive oil. Small acts of yielding to the Holy Spirit, continual conversation with him, listening for small nudges and following through on them, these are the currency. The cost is real, and the accumulation is personal. Nobody can do it on someone else's behalf.
The parable also carries a warning that Brian did not soften. He says plainly that "There will come a day where it will be too late to buy oil, and you must burn your lamp with whatever supply you have." The store closes. That is not a detail to explain away but a call to tend to your own relationship with God now, while there is still time to buy.
