What does Tribe teach about holy spirit relationship?

At Tribe, the teaching on a relationship with the Holy Spirit starts with the conviction that it is personal and cannot be borrowed or inherited from anyone else. Brian has been direct that cultivating that relationship looks like ordinary, daily things: continual conversation with the Holy Spirit, inviting him in, listening for small nudges, obeying them, praying in your prayer language, and not forsaking gathering together. Brian used the image of oil for a lamp to describe what a genuine relationship with the Holy Spirit actually produces and costs. The oil cannot be transferred. No pastor, no format, and no worship service can supply it for someone else. It is purchased through surrender, through small acts of obedience, through what he described as a crushing and pressing process. Brian says, "You cannot burn your lamp off of somebody else's oil." The implication is serious and personal: the intimacy either gets built or it does not.

Brian has also been honest that there is an urgency here, not as a scare tactic but as a plain reading of the parable itself. The story shows a moment when the opportunity closes, and he has not softened that. Brian says, "There will come a day where it will be too late to buy oil, and you must burn your lamp with whatever supply you have." For the Tribe family, this shapes why the church keeps returning to the question of whether each person is actually tending their own relationship with the Holy Spirit, not just participating in a community that is.
