What does Tribe teach about obeying god?

At Tribe, the teaching on obeying God starts with a simple but searching question: why do you call Jesus Lord and not do what he says? Pastor Brian worked through Luke 6:46-49 and showed that the passage is not a rebuke to be endured but a blueprint to be followed. He named three movements inside it: coming to Jesus, listening to his teaching, and obeying it. None of the three works without the others, and pulling any one of them out, Brian said, causes the whole thing to collapse like a Jenga tower.
On what obeying actually looks like, Brian pointed to the Greek behind the word. It means to do or to make, and it carries a picture of new roots pushing out from a plant, through hard ground. Importantly, the verb is in the present progressive tense. This is not a one-time decision. It is a continual coming, a continual listening, a continual obeying. He also pressed on the danger of self-deception, noting that being misled by outside forces is one thing, but as Brian says, "it's one thing to be deceived by the devil when he's running his game on you. It's a whole another thing when you are doing the devil's job for him."
The teaching from the Shavuot message added another layer by showing obedience running as a thread through the book of Ruth. Ruth following Naomi, Ruth following Boaz's workers through the field, Ruth pledging to do everything Naomi says. Brian held those moments up as a picture of what following the Holy Spirit looks like in ordinary life. He also reminded the room that it is never too late to get there, noting that Moses was called at eighty, and that "at 80 years old, remember, it's never too late to get synced up with the plan of the Holy Spirit."
