What does Tribe teach about passover?

At Tribe, the teaching on Passover begins with the conviction that these feasts are not borrowed traditions from another people's history. Brian Hunter is consistent on this point across several years of messages: God calls them his own feasts in scripture, and if you are in God's family, you participate in the family traditions. The church returns to Passover each spring for three reasons Brian has named repeatedly, to remember what God has already done, to recalibrate when life has drifted, and to rehearse so that when the events these feasts point toward unfold in real time, the congregation will recognize them.
The Exodus 12 account of the first Passover is the text Brian returns to most. He has walked through it in detail, slowing down on the lamb brought into the home and loved before it was killed, on the blood painted on the door frame with a hyssop branch, and on the word translated 'basin' in verse 22, which in Hebrew also means threshold. That last detail matters because it connects the doorway of the Israelite home to the communion table, and both to the cross. Brian has pointed out that the blood on the door is where the emphasis of the passage falls, not on the moral condition of the people sheltering inside. As he put it in one message, 'That night, deliverance depended on the blood applied, not the people inside.' John the Baptist's declaration at the Jordan River, calling Jesus the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world, is where Brian traces that story forward, noting that the blood of animals in the Old Testament only covered sin, while Jesus takes it away entirely.
The search for yeast before Passover is another piece Brian has taught carefully. Paul's letter in 1 Corinthians 5 makes explicit what the feast was picturing: a little yeast spreads through a whole batch of dough the same way small compromise spreads quietly through a life. Brian has connected the command to search every corner of the house to Psalm 139, where the psalmist asks God to search the heart and reveal anything that needs to go. The hyssop branch used to apply the blood to the door frame reappears at the crucifixion, and Brian has argued that Jesus refusing what was offered on it was a refusal of any man-made shortcut to consecration. The blood is what grants access to God's presence, not religious effort or tradition.
