What does Tribe teach about surrendering to god?

At Tribe, the teaching on surrendering to God starts with a simple and uncomfortable observation: you cannot add Jesus to your life. Brian has been direct about this across several messages in the New Wine series. As he put it, "You cannot add Jesus to your life because if you try to fit him and his ways and following him into just adding it into your life, it will wreck your life." The picture Jesus himself gives in the parable of wineskins makes the same point from a different angle. New wine poured into an old wineskin bursts the skin and wastes the wine. The only way to receive what God is doing is to get a new wineskin, and new wineskins are not free. Brian says plainly, "New wineskins don't come for free, it will cost you something." That cost is always death, death to old mindsets, old patterns, and the assumptions a person has been carrying, sometimes for a lifetime.
The rich young ruler in Mark 10 is the clearest picture of what happens when that cost feels too high. Jesus looks at him, loves him, and offers one drop of new wine: sell everything and follow him. The man's wineskin had held the law of Moses since childhood, but it could not stretch to hold that one thing, and he walked away. Brian noted that the man's sorrow was itself significant. He felt in his spirit what he was walking away from, even as he walked away from it. On the other side of that warning sits Bartimaeus, a few verses later, who responded the opposite way.
The teaching from Doctor Laura on Romans 8:14 pushes the same idea further. She described being led by the Spirit using the Greek word ago, a rope guiding an animal, and said sons of God are not partially surrendered. They go where the Spirit sends them and do not operate on their own initiative. Jesus himself is the model: the words he spoke were not his own but the Father's. The danger she named is what she called mixture, being shaped more by culture than by scripture, following well-meaning impulses from the soul rather than a clear yes from God. Surrendering to God, in the teaching at Tribe, is not a single moment of decision. It is a continual dying to self, a continual following wherever the Spirit leads.
