What does Tribe teach about communion meaning?

At Tribe, the teaching on communion starts with two fixed points in history and holds them together in a single act. Brian Hunter has described the Lord's Supper as sitting between the Passover, which foreshadowed Jesus as the ultimate Passover lamb, and the wedding supper of the Lamb described in Revelation 19, the future celebration where Jesus said he would not drink of the fruit of the vine again until that day arrives. Communion, in that frame, is not simply a ritual of remembrance but a practice that looks backward and forward at the same time, a marker of where God's people stand between what has already been accomplished and what is still coming.
That same forward orientation shaped the way Brian closed out the first Sunday of 2023, when Tribe read Exodus 24 together and the morning ended with communion alongside an outdoor water baptism. The invitation he placed before the congregation was to begin the new year by letting their lives be consumed on the altar of God, and communion was part of that act of surrender. Similarly, when Brian opened 2024 with the word "clarity in complexity," the sermon closed with communion as a concrete expression of that clarity in practice, a way of anchoring the congregation to something solid and known in the middle of a disorienting world.
Communion also marked one of Tribe's more unusual gatherings, when the whole church family met under one roof at the Saloon rather than splitting into two Sunday services. That service closed with the congregation sharing communion together as a family, which is consistent with the way Brian has consistently treated it: not as a formality added to the end of a service, but as an act the whole community participates in together, rooted in what Jesus has done and oriented toward what he has promised.
