What does Tribe teach about mother's day?

At Tribe, the Mother's Day teaching tends to honor mothers by placing them inside a larger story about obedience, faithfulness, and listening to God. The two most recent messages both came from Amanda Lack, who preached while Brian and Lissa Hunter were away. Amanda built her message around 1 Samuel 3, the night God called the boy Samuel, but she traced the whole story back to Samuel's mother Hannah, a woman who was barren, who was mocked, who wept so bitterly at the temple that the priest thought she was drunk, and who prayed a bold and specific prayer for a son she promised to return to God's service. Hannah kept that promise, and the image Amanda returned to was Hannah sewing Samuel a new robe every year, a small faithful act that accompanied a child she had given away. Mothers, in this telling, are not background figures. They are the ones whose prayers and faithfulness make room for the next generation to hear God's voice.
Amanda's central theme was the difference between hearing and listening, and she used an image that lands close to home for any parent: "Hearing and listening are very different. You can hear your mom call you to dinner while you're playing video games, but are you listening to her?" Samuel heard God's voice three times before he understood what was happening. What God was waiting for was not perfect knowledge but a willing posture, the kind Samuel showed by running, not walking, to Eli each time he heard something in the night. Amanda read that eagerness as a mark of someone shaped by private faithfulness before any public calling. As she put it, "Before Samuel is ever called to a public ministry, he is marked by private obedience."
The 2023 Mother's Day message took a different angle. Pastor Brian preached from Genesis and Romans to ground the celebration of mothers in what God's Word says about women and biological sex, insisting that honoring mothers well requires first being honest about what God designed. All three messages, taken together, reflect a church that uses Mother's Day not for sentiment alone but as an occasion to say something real about faithfulness, identity, and what it looks like to respond when God calls.
