What does Tribe teach about prayer language?

At Tribe, the teaching on prayer language treats it as one practical expression of a cultivated, ongoing relationship with the Holy Spirit. In the messages on walking in the Spirit and building new wineskins, Brian has returned more than once to the idea that the Holy Spirit fully indwells every believer at salvation, but waits for permission to operate through them. Prayer language sits inside that larger framework: it is one of the ways a person keeps the conversation going, stays attentive to the Spirit's leading, and builds the kind of intimacy with God that cannot be outsourced or borrowed from someone else.
The oil-lamp image from the parable of the ten virgins is the sharpest way Brian has pressed on this. Oil cannot be shared because it is purchased through personal surrender, through small acts of obedience, through the pressing and crushing that produce it. Prayer language belongs to that same category of things that only come through firsthand relationship. As Brian put it, "You cannot burn your lamp off of somebody else's oil." No pastor, no worship service, and no church format can supply what only grows out of a person's own intimacy with God.
In the series on walking in the Spirit, Brian also connected prayer language to the practical steps of obeying the Holy Spirit in small, everyday moments. The point was that when a person has practiced listening and responding in the mundane things, the Spirit's voice becomes unmistakable when the stakes rise. Prayer language is part of that ongoing practice, a way of staying in step rather than waiting for a crisis to start the relationship.
