From that passage, Brian laid out three broad phases Jesus describes before his return: birth pains marked by false messiahs, wars, famines, and earthquakes; a period of tribulation; and the return itself. He pushed the congregation to read 'false messiahs' more broadly than a figure in a white sheet, noting that any philosophy or place promising to fix your life is functioning as a messiah. He also pushed back against a sanitized picture of what the return will look like, arguing that just as Israel missed the first coming because the Messiah did not match their expectations, many who today consider themselves part of the church may reject Jesus at his return for the same reason. The book of Revelation, he said, is not meant to scare but to reveal Jesus, and that the closer a person gets to the Holy Spirit the more Revelation reads like a comfort rather than a threat.
The Sukkot series added another layer. Brian pointed to Zechariah 14 and the fact that it is the only feast in the Old Testament he has found that the nations will continue to celebrate during Jesus' literal reign on earth, and that verse 17 of that same chapter describes consequences for any nation that refuses. He used that to show how different the return will look compared to the first coming. Across all of these messages, the consistent emphasis is that familiarity with these prophecies is not a hobby for end-times enthusiasts; it is the kind of preparation that lets a person recognize what is unfolding when it happens.
