What does Tribe teach about water baptism?

Water baptism appears in the messages as a practice Tribe takes seriously enough to organize a whole service around it. In the recap from the August 2025 gathering, the congregation met outdoors at Miller Park in Jackson, shared a meal together, and then moved to Garmin Park specifically for baptisms. The act was woven into the rhythm of a full community day rather than treated as a brief add-on to a Sunday morning.
The January 2023 message from Exodus 24 gives the clearest theological backdrop. Brian Hunter led Tribe through the chapter together, and he closed that service with both communion and an outdoor water baptism. The connection he drew was to the image of Moses walking into the consuming fire on the mountain, an act that, to the people watching from below, would have looked like death. The invitation Brian put before the congregation that day was to begin the new year by letting their lives be consumed on the altar of God. Baptism, in that setting, was the outward expression of that inward surrender.
It is worth noting that neither message develops a full doctrinal treatment of baptism on its own. What comes through in both is that Tribe practices baptism in community, outdoors, and at moments the church treats as genuinely significant turning points rather than routine ritual.
