What does Tribe teach about hearing from god?

At Tribe, the teaching on hearing from God starts with the assumption that God genuinely speaks and that the barriers to hearing him are usually on our end, not his. Amanda Lack preached from 1 Samuel 3, where the boy Samuel is called by God three times in the night before he learns to respond. The detail she pressed on was the difference between hearing and listening. As she put it, "Hearing and listening are very different. You can hear your mom call you to dinner while you're playing video games, but are you listening to her?" Listening, in the way the passage frames it, is not just catching sound. It is orienting your whole posture toward the one speaking. Samuel's repeated running to Eli was not a failure. It was eagerness, and God's patience in calling three times was not weakness but kindness, consistent with the way He confirms His word throughout scripture.
Brian Hunter's messages on the burning bush and on resisting the rut both make a related point: God often shows up inside the disruptions we most want to avoid, and whether we encounter Him there depends on whether we turn toward the unusual thing or back away from it. Moses said "I must go and see" and moved closer. In Mark 6, Jesus was walking past the disciples and would have kept going. The encounter required them to turn toward the disruption rather than away from it. The broader pattern across Tribe's teaching is that hearing from God is not reserved for dramatic moments. Samuel's readiness was shaped by years of private faithfulness before God ever called him to anything public, and the teaching here underscores that ordinary, unglamorous obedience is what puts a person in the right place to receive something extraordinary.
The series on walking in the Spirit adds another layer. Brian teaches that God speaks first to a person's spirit, and that the proper order of a human being, with the spirit receiving from the Lord and the soul following, is what makes someone capable of recognizing and responding to what God is saying. A person whose soul is running the show on its own terms, whether through obvious sin or tidy religious habit, is not structured to receive. Walking in the Spirit is the practical work of keeping that order right, so that when God speaks, there is something in you positioned to hear.
