What does Tribe teach about hearing from god?

At Tribe, the teaching on hearing from God starts with the conviction that God is genuinely speaking and that the issue is rarely whether he will speak but whether we are positioned to receive it. Amanda Lack brought this out clearly from 1 Samuel 3, pointing to the moment when young Samuel keeps running to Eli because he does not yet recognize the voice of God. She drew attention to the difference between hearing and listening, putting it this way: "Hearing and listening are very different. You can hear your mom call you to dinner while you're playing video games, but are you listening to her?" Listening, she said, requires your whole posture to be oriented toward the one speaking, not just your ears.
The Samuel story also taught something about the conditions that make hearing possible. Amanda noted that before Samuel is ever called into any public role, the text shows him running eagerly to serve, sleeping near the Ark, wearing the robe his mother made him year after year. As she put it, "Before Samuel is ever called to a public ministry, he is marked by private obedience." God's patience in calling Samuel three times was not weakness, she said, but kindness, consistent with the way he confirms his word throughout scripture. The darkness of the surrounding era, a corrupt priesthood, a lamp nearly out in the tabernacle, and rare words from God, was not a throwaway detail. It was the context into which God chose to speak anyway.
Brian has pressed on this from a different angle in messages about disruption and the burning bush. The same instinct that makes someone miss God's voice is the one that pulls us toward predictable routines and away from anything unusual. Moses said "I must go and see" and moved toward the burning bush rather than past it. Brian's point is that God often places the encounter right inside the disruption we most want to avoid, and curiosity, or the lack of it, determines whether we meet him there. The framework Brian has laid out for walking in the Spirit runs underneath all of this: God speaks to our spirit, which then instructs the soul and body. When the soul is running the show instead, we can be surrounded by real things God is doing and still miss them, just as the disciples nearly missed Jesus walking on the water.
